How Man About The House began
I come from a small cane farming town in Far North Queensland called Mossman. I shared this hard-working community with the local aboriginals, the Kuku Yalanji people. We all worked together to create a happy and sustainable living environment which gave me an immense sense of community in what is considered a remote part of Australia.
I was profoundly impacted by the way they treated each other and their land. They had respect. They had respect for their surroundings. They had respect for their elders that I can’t even explain.
The elders taught them that none of what was around them belonged just to them, it belonged to everyone. They taught them to be self-sufficient and to respect every blade of grass they walked on.
I take very much the same approach in everything I do.
I treat every client and what they have gathered with the same respect as they would.
This in turn creates a mutual respect, and a trust that I will look after them.
When it came time to name my company, I turned to the place that I draw the most strength from: my community of birth.
I spoke to one of the elders in the community and asked her for the elders’ permission to name my company with an aboriginal word.
She gave my business the name Wawu Jeday, which means "we respect everyone”. It was perfect.
I am so humbled and proud to be able to call my business both Wawu Jeday and Man About The House.
We hire quality, so your quality is assured
My philosophy for my business and everyone I hire is to always to deliver what we say we will do, no excuses.
There are a lot of gardeners, cleaners and handymen out there. We choose only the very best: those few who meet our own exacting standards.
We hand-pick our team of go-getters: people with a friendly smile and warmth, a can-do attitude, and of course highly qualified and skilled at what they do.
All contractors and staff have all required checks, insurance and certifications.
